The Garden Wall

Roletto (TO) - Italy

New construction

In progress

In Roletto, on a gently sloping green terrain facing east, the project takes shape as the enclosure of a garden, open towards the valley. The wall serves both as an architectural element and as the foundational principle of the settlement.

Like the remains of an ancient structure, these walls extend outward or fold onto themselves to define more sheltered spaces, yet never fully close into enclosed rooms. At the heart of the house, the hearth anchors the warm, lived-in spaces around it.

The typological reference is unmistakably that of the cascina piemontese, where the enclosing wall, together with the broad, sloping roofs, defines the inhabited spaces—both indoor and outdoor—shaping small working courtyards and expansive barns.
