Dwelling the Terrace

Pinerolo (TO) - Italy

Demolition and reconstruction

On site

The land on which the project is located belongs to the agricultural system of the Pinerolo hills, an area dedicated to cultivation since the medieval period.

In celebration of this tradition, the new building is conceived as an excavation within the rocky slope, a furrow made by a plow that outlines a system of terraces on the surface, allowing the hillside’s grassy mantle to continue uninterrupted.

The underground character of the construction organically determines the introverted nature of the inhabited space, folded around an inner courtyard that exposes the rocky face of the excavation, transforming its geology into a backdrop.
